Just five years old, SurfAid is already supported by thousands of individuals, families, organizations, and schools, worldwide. Take a few minutes to meet a few members that have inspired us to continue doing our best for the cause.
Daniel Buck, aka "Bucky" of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England:
In January of last year, Daniel and a friend organised a surfing competition in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England in aid of victims of the Indian Ocean Tsumani. Besides raising a solid amount of donations at the event they made a DVD of the event, held a movie night, and sold copies. Thanks for making a difference, Daniel!
11-year old, Brooks Westervelt, of Newport Beach, California supports SurfAid. His mom, Kathy writes:
"Brooks is 11 years old and was so excited to make his donation. He is pretty new to surfing, but absolutely loves it and all that goes with it. This past summer, he participated in the Junior Lifeguards and loved that as well. He buys surf magazines with his own money, and he got his first full wetsuit in August. He’s hoping to get a surfboard for Christmas, but we’re not sure yet! Right now he has a foamy, which he says is “poser material!” He spends hours watching Step Into Liquid and another one that recently came out (can’t remember the title – he’d be so upset with me!). Anyway, he appreciates the effort of your organization and really wanted to contribute. He’s a great kid, full of life and enthusiasm for whatever he pursues."
Brooks, you're the man! Keep up the support!
21-year old, Nick Blandford, of Victoria, BC, Canada supports SurfAid. Nick writes:
"My name is Nick Blandford and I'm 21. I decided to throw a SurfAid International Benefit Show here in Victoria featuring 2 local, very talented bands, Jon & Roy w/ Dougal (www.jonandroy.com) and the Current Swell (www.currentswell.com). I also have a friend who works as a rep in Vancouver, BC, for some surf/skate companies who I wrote a proposal for and he managed to get me $500 worth of goods from sponsors like Dakine, Vans, VonZipper and Mada. I also got about $200 of goods from a couple of local shops; 360 Boardshop and Sitka Surfshop. I sold out the 250 capacity venue and sold over 800 drinks during the night, as well, the owners were gracing me and the event as the most successful event ever thrown at the Victoria Events Center. I think you guys are doing a great job with your humanitarian work in Indo so keep doin' whatcha you're doin'. "
Thanks, Nick! Let us know if you need a reference for a wedding planner position!
The students at Westhampton Beach High School in New York support SurfAid. Linda Hoover writes:
"I work at Westhampton Beach High School in NY. Our school had a fundraiser for you in May called the "Battle of the Bands." It was very successful as you can see. Our group is called C.U.R.E., Classmates United in Restoring the Environment. We do beach & river clean ups, (and) recycle the school's mounds of paper, cans & bottles. As I read about you on the website I am so glad to send this check along. May it help your enormous undertaking."
Thanks C.U.R.E.! You're a great example of the motivated and compassionate people that make up SurfAid.
Make a Difference. Join SurfAid.
