Renowned photographer Steven Lippman, along with the Wave of Compassion II Sweepstakes, had that chance to visit the Mentawai Islands. Lippman's breathtaking 16-page photo spread in Malibu Magazine captures the environment, the Mentawai culture, the people, and their appreciation for life. His impressive photos really helped reaffirm why SurfAid exists. No other words can articulate the raw emotions and feelings that his photographs evoke.

Swim 4 Life
The first annual Swim 4 Life event was a SUCCESS!! The event helped raise money to save lives through friendly swimming competitions. The efforts of many donors, participants and volunteers raised $40,00 and welcomed 600 new donors to our organization. This fall we're planning Swim 4 Life East to be held in October in the Tri-state area. We'll keep you posted!

Jackson English Sets Paddling Record for SurfAid
With a Joe Bark Paddleboard in hand and his mission to paddle the Singapore Strait, Jackson English, a champion Australian paddle boarder, became the first to paddle a fifty mile roundtrip adventure from Sentosa, Singapore to Batam, Indonesia. Why did paddle? It is simple: for SurfAid. Jackson recognizes and believes in SurfAid's charitable work for Indonesia. Thus, he combined his passion for the ocean and paddling talent as a way to contribute to SurfAid's mission. His goal is to raise 60,000 Singapore dollars, and so far he has raised $30,000. Thanks Jackson!
Havassy Opening Reception at Nine Star
On Saturday, April 28, Robb Havassy & the folks at Nine Star very generously made SurfAid the beneficiary of the opening reception of Havassy's new art display at Nine Star's Mission Viejo store. SurfAid raised close to $3,000 and met some GREAT people. Thanks to everyone involved including Reef, Transworld Surf, Surfline, Sector 9, Robert August, Surftech and of course Robb Havassy & Nine Star.

Vans Surf, Joel Tudor, and Surfer Magazine have partnered with SurfAid to create a unique matching funds effort through a new sandal project. Recently they held a couple days of Malaria awareness activity on campus, culminating with a fundraiser that pulled in nearly $800 for SurfAid. Thanks for caring and making a difference!

Paddle Round the Pier - We need U.K. volunteers
We are very excited and honored to be chosen, once again, to be one of the three beneficiaries for the "Paddle Round the Pier 2007 Beach Festival". The event takes place July 7-8th, 2007 in Brighton, United Kingdom. Using surfboards, kayaks, and even a floating bed, participants paddle into the Brighton Beach waters to be a part of an event full of personality, quirkiness, and fun-helping raise money and awareness for seriously great causes. This year organizers are expecting the to event quadruple in size from last year's!!! We are very thankful to Paddle Director Dave Samuel for recognizing our organization, believing in our cause, and helping spread the SurfAid's message ACROSS THE ATLANTIC!!

LEAP IN
Do you have an interest in having a one-on-one experience with a cause you passionately believe about? Well, LEAP IN (Local Empowerment Assistance Program) a non-profit organization has partnered with SurfAid on the island of Hinako to assist villages in Indonesia. Their program "Holidays With a Purpose" gives individuals a chance to participate. This program allows you to have a 12-day volunteer adventure in the heart of an Indonesian village to help, learn, interact and contribute to this beautiful community. The programs come from three different areas: business, health, and education. Upcoming programs include school building project, organic gardening, working in clinics, and children interaction activities. This chance to go would be the ultimate way for you to continue to empower yourself and others!
