By Dr. Dave Jenkins

It is only with the support of our membership and generous donors, that SurfAid is able to achieve our desired outcomes; reducing death and suffering from preventable disease.
Everyday Heroes: The Masters School
The 9th grade community at New York's Masters School contrived a one-of-a-kind fundraising activity, "The Mustache-a-thon"! The theme, 'grow a mustache for humanity' brought in faculty members who then chose a charity to fundraise for and a student team to support them in their endeavor. We'd like to extend a BIG thanks to the 9th grade students and participating faculty of the Master's School for taking on the mustache challenge and helping us save lives!
Surf Prescriptions: Thanks to Surf Prescriptions, Doc & Amber Lausch and the whole team over there for including SurfAid in their 25th Anniversary celebrations. They graciously donated $1,000 of fundraising proceeds from their event!
AKA: AKA Surfboards has been a consistent supporter of SurfAid. For every board sold, $1 goes directly to SurfAid and our programs in Indonesia!
Aloha: Wave of Compassion II would not have been the same with out Aloha's donation of surfboards for this spectacular trip.
Chasing Dora Premiere in San Diego
The La Paloma showing of "Chasing Dora" was a quite a success, with a great showing from the local community. We'd like to thank Big Red Productions, Keiko Beatie, FUEL, and the filmmakers Wes Brown and TJ Barrack - your support is greatly appreciated!

Kids 4 Katrina (and more!)
A group of kids with big hearts from Manhattan Beach, CA recently completed a fundraiser over 12 months in the making. At the Pacific Coast Surf Auction, SurfAid auctioned a beautiful balsa wood surfboard autographed by many of the legends of our sport, including Greg Noll, Robert August, and Laird Hamilton. Proceeds were to benefit SurfAid International and Habitat for Humanity, Katrina Relief. Thank you for everyone involved, especially Mary & Alissa Barendse for their tenacity in making this happen, Allan Seymour for giving us the opportunity to auction the board at his event, our own Fernando Aguerre for reviving his auctioneer ways, and Larry Shea & CPS Holdings for beating everyone else's bid and taking home this rare bird (err... board).

Zul briefs Mentawai Health Department staff
|
This past month our Indonesian friend and Malaria Program Manager Zul Marpung died in Tuapejat Hospital of a heart condition at age 42. Zul joined SurfAid in 2003 with 12 years of experience of malaria control in Papua and was instrumental in the expansion of our program in the Mentawai. Zul had a deeply held commitment to help the rural poor with his knowledge and experience. We are honoring his selfless work as we launch the major stage of the Malaria Free Mentawai program, which he played a major role in establishing.
Our sincere condolences are with his wife Elly and his three children. Some SurfAid staff have decided to support his children's education for years to come.
As Always, Special Thanks to Our Corporate Sponsors:
